HiMedia's BHI (Brain Heart Infusion) Broth is a highly nutritious, buffered liquid medium for growing diverse fastidious and non-fastidious microorganisms, including anaerobic bacteria, yeasts, and molds, essential for blood cultures, susceptibility testing, and isolating pathogens like Histoplasma capsulatum with supplements, featuring calf brain/heart infusions, peptones, dextrose, and salts for robust growth. Key Features & Uses
  • High Nutrition: Contains infusions from calf brain and heart, plus peptones, providing carbon, nitrogen, vitamins, and amino acids.
  • Broad Spectrum: Supports the growth of a wide variety of bacteria, fungi, yeasts, and molds, especially fastidious ones.
  • Buffering: Well-buffered with disodium phosphate to maintain pH, ideal for different organisms.
  • Blood Cultures: A preferred medium for blood culture work and detecting Staphylococcus aureus.
  • Inoculum Preparation: Used to prepare microbial inocula for antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST).
  • Fungal Isolation: Supplemented with blood, it's used for isolating fungi like Histoplasma capsulatum.
