• Application: Used in testing foodstuffs and other materials to find and count bacteria that break down proteins.
• Quality Control: Helps predict refrigerated storage shelf-life and assess food processing standards. 

• Clear Zone Formation: Proteolytic colonies degrade the calcium caseinate/protein present in the opaque medium, creating distinct clear zones around the colonies. 
• Nutrient Composition: Contains tryptone, peptone, and HM extract to supply essential nitrogen, carbon, vitamins, and amino acids, with added phosphates for buffering and sodium chloride for osmotic balance. 

• pH Range: 6.8 to 7.2 (at 25C)
• Storage Temperature: 10C to 30C for the dehydrated powder
