It's a triphenylmethane dye with a greenish tint, differentiated from Coomassie Brilliant Blue R-250 by the presence of two methyl groups. CBBG exists in different forms depending on pH, with the anionic (blue) form primarily binding to proteins. Key characteristics and uses:

Protein Detection:CBBG is widely used for visualizing proteins separated by SDS-PAGE and BN-PAGE.
Bradford Assay:It's a key component of the Bradford assay, a method for determining protein concentration.
pH Dependence:CBBG's color and binding affinity are pH-dependent. The anionic (blue) form, prevalent at pH above 2, is the form that binds to proteins, particularly those with basic or aromatic amino acid residues.
Forms:
- Cation (red form): Below pH 0, absorbance peak at 470 nm.
- Anion (blue form): Above pH 2, absorbance peak at 595 nm.
- Neutral (green form): Around pH 1, absorbance peak around 650 nm.
