A HiMedia Luria Bertani (LB) Agar plate is a nutrient-rich medium used for the cultivation of bacteria, especially recombinant strains of E. coli for genetic and molecular biology studies. It contains tryptone (casein enzymic hydrolysate), yeast extract, and sodium chloride to provide essential nutrients, maintain osmotic equilibrium, and support microbial growth. The agar component is what solidifies the medium into a plate for culturing.  Key features and uses

• Composition: Made with casein enzymic hydrolysate (tryptone), yeast extract, sodium chloride, and agar. 
• Purpose: Primarily used for cultivating and maintaining recombinant strains of E. coli for genetic and molecular studies. It can also be used for the routine cultivation of other non-fastidious microorganisms.

• Preparation: To prepare, suspend the powder in distilled water, heat to dissolve, sterilize via autoclaving (e.g., at 121C for 15 minutes), and pour into sterile plates.
