About Macconkey Agar 500g

MacConkey Agar is a selective and differential culture medium used to isolate and differentiate Gram-negative bacteria. It inhibits the growth of Gram-positive bacteria due to the presence of bile salts and crystal violet. The differential component is lactose, which, when fermented by certain bacteria, produces acidic byproducts that cause the pH indicator, neutral red, to turn the colonies pink or red.
