About Minocycline 30mcg 1vl Himedia

HiMedia describes minocycline as an antibiotic used in microbiology for antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST), primarily in the form of Ezy MIC strips and HiComb MIC strips, which are impregnated with minocycline to determine the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of the drug against microorganisms. The strips provide a gradient of the antibiotic, allowing for the quantitative measurement of the organism's susceptibility to minocycline. Types of Minocycline Products from HiMedia:
  • Minocycline Ezy MIC Strip:A thin, paper strip with a concentration gradient of minocycline, enabling the determination of MICs from 0.016 mcg/ml to 256 mcg/ml. 
  • Minocycline HiComb MIC Strip:A comb-like strip with 15 extensions, each containing a porous material impregnated with minocycline in a concentration gradient. 
  • Minocycline MI Disc:A pre-packaged antibiotic disc with a specific concentration (e.g., 30 mcg) of minocycline for disc diffusion testing. 
How the Products Work:
  1. 1. Gradient Creation:The strips or discs are designed to release minocycline in a high-to-low concentration gradient when placed on an agar plate. 
  2. 2. Zone of Inhibition:After incubation, a zone of inhibition appears around the strip or disc, indicating the areas where the microorganism's growth is prevented. 
  3. 3. MIC Determination:The MIC is read by identifying the highest concentration of the antibiotic in the gradient that still inhibits visible growth. 
Purpose:
  • To quantitatively determine the susceptibility of bacteria to minocycline.
