It is primarily used in analytical and synthetic chemical processes, and notably in histopathology staining methods like the Periodic Acid-Schiff (PAS) reaction. Description and Properties
  • Form: Solid crystalline powder (hygroscopic; may become pale yellow on exposure to air).
  • Purity: Guaranteed minimum 99% assay (iodometric).
  • Grade: SQ (presumably a "Special Quality" or similar high-purity laboratory grade), ensuring consistent performance and compliance with stringent quality standards.
  • Solubility: Soluble in water and alcohols; a 10% w/v solution in water should be almost clear and colorless.
  • Chemical Nature: A moderately strong oxidizing agent and weak acid, existing in orthoperiodic acid (HIO) or metaperiodic acid (HIO) forms.
