About PTe 3.5% Selective Supplement 1 ml per vial 5vl Himedia

HiMedia PTe 3.5% Selective Supplement (FD047) is a 1 ml per vial liquid additive containing 0.350g of Potassium tellurite, designed for the selective isolation of Staphylococci and Corynebacteria. It is primarily used with Baird Parker Agar Base or Hoyle Medium Base. It inhibits gram-negative organisms, allowing for the characteristic black colony growth of target bacteria. Key Features and Specifications:
  • Composition: Each 1 ml vial contains Potassium tellurite (0.350g) and distilled water.
  • Application: Used for clinical samples (throat/wound swabs) and food testing.
  • Storage: Requires refrigeration, generally stored at 2-8C.
  • Usage: The contents of one vial (1 ml) are sufficient for 950 ml of Baird Parker Agar Base (with 50 ml egg yolk) or 1000 ml of Hoyle Medium Base (with 50 ml laked blood).
  • Mechanism: Potassium tellurite acts as a selective agent that inhibits the growth of contaminating flora. Instructions for Use: 
    1. Warm the refrigerated vial to 4550C45 minus 50 raised to the composed with power cap C4550.
    2. Aseptically add 9 ml of sterile distilled water to the 1 ml vial and mix well.
    3. Add the resulting solution to the cooled (4550C45 minus 50 raised to the composed with power cap C4550) molten agar base.
    4. Mix well and pour into petri plates.
