DescriptionThis product is a selective microbiological culture medium used for the detection and enumeration of Escherichia coli in various samples, including foodstuffs, animal feed, water, and clinical specimens. The medium is formulated to meet international standards such as ISO 16649-2:2001 and ISO 11133:2014(E)/Amd.:2020. Principle of ActionThe medium works on the principle that most E. coli strains possess the enzyme -glucuronidase. A chromogenic agent, X--D-glucuronic acid, is included in the agar. When E. coli absorbs this compound, the intracellular enzyme cleaves the bond, releasing a chromophore that causes the E. coli colonies to turn a distinctive bluish-green color after incubation. Bile salts in the medium inhibit the growth of most Gram-positive bacteria, making it selective. Product Details
