About Turmeric Indicator Papers 10Books SRL

Turmeric indicator paper is paper treated with turmeric, a natural acid-base indicator, to indicate whether a solution is acidic or basic: 

Color change
  • When dipped in a basic solution, turmeric paper turns red or deep red. When dipped in an acidic solution, the paper remains yellow. 
Uses
  • Turmeric paper can indicate the presence of alkalis, which turn it brown, or of boric acid, which turns it reddish-brown. 
Preparation
  • To make turmeric paper, you can:
    1. Extract the color from turmeric powder by adding it to water or alcohol. 
    2. Apply the extract to absorbent paper, such as blotting paper or a kitchen towel. 
    3. Dip the paper strips into the solution, making sure the entire strip is coated. 
    4. Remove the strip from the solution and let it dry completely. 
Turmeric is also known as a pH indicator, and other natural indicators include red cabbage and china rose.
