Antibiotic Assay Medium No. 9 (Polymyxin Base Agar) is a standardized solid growth medium recommended as a base layer for the microbiological plate assay of antibiotics such as Polymyxin B, Colistimethate sodium, Colistin, and Carbenicillin
Intended Use and Applications
  • Primary Use: Assaying pharmaceutical preparations containing Polymyxin B, colistin, and related antibiotics (via HiMedia Laboratories).
  • Test Organisms: Used with Bordetella bronchiseptica for polymyxins/colistin, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa for carbenicillin assays.
  • Assay Method: Functions as the solid foundation (typically a 21 ml base layer in the cylinder plate method) that supports an inoculated seed agar layer
