About Motility Test Medium 500g

Motility Test Medium is a specialized semi-solid formulation used in microbiology to determine whether bacteria can move independently
Composition and Physical State
Standard solid agar uses about 1.5% agar concentration, which restricts bacterial movement. Motility test medium reduces the agar concentration to a lower leveltypically 0.3% to 0.4%creating a soft, semi-solid gel matrix. 
A standard formulation per liter of distilled water includes:
  • Tryptose or Peptone: ~10.0 g (provides essential amino acids, nitrogen, and carbon for growth)
  • Sodium Chloride: ~5.0 g (maintains osmotic balance)
  • Agar: ~3.0 g to 5.0 g (forms the semi-solid support)
  • Optional additive: TTC (2,3,5-triphenyltetrazolium chloride) may be added as a redox indicator. TTC is colorless in its oxidized form, but active bacterial metabolism reduces it to an insoluble red pigment (formazan), making the growth pattern easier to see.
