A watch glass is a round, concave piece of glass used in laboratories for a variety of purposes:

Evaporation: A watch glass is used to evaporate liquids. It can be placed on a surface of a contrasting color to improve visibility.
Weighing: A watch glass is used to hold solids while being weighed.
Heating: A watch glass is used to heat small amounts of substances or powders.
Covering: A watch glass is used to cover beakers, flasks, and other vessels to prevent dust or other particles from entering. However, it does not completely seal the container, allowing gas exchanges to occur.
Concentrating aromas: A watch glass can be used to cover a glass of whisky to concentrate the aromas and prevent spills.

Watch glasses are typically made of clear or frosted glass and range in size from a few centimeters to several inches in diameter. They can be reused after being cleaned and sterilized. Watch glasses are named after the glass used for the front of old-fashioned pocket watches. Larger watch glasses are sometimes called clock glasses.
